Aurelia Sonotropia
(urban climbing plant - Nantes )
With its pavilloscopic leaves, Aurelia Sonotropia picks up the sounds
from its surroundings whose vibrations it needs in order to grow
properly.
During the first few years, its exposed roots will grow amid the
dull hum of the city, then each of its shoots will become sensitive
to a particular
sound and will only stretch out its leaves to pick out that particular
sound from the background noise.
But such outstanding adaptability can make Aurelia fragile as more
and more leaves possess such acoustic sensitivity that, in the presence
of
the micro-sounds they generate on unfolding at birth, they immediately
close up again to hear them better.
